Phillip N. West, M.D.

Phillip N. West, M.D. is a graduate of Northwestern University Medical School.
He received his postgraduate training in General Surgery and Cardiothoracic
Surgery at Washington Universityʼs Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Dr. West is board-certified in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He is a
Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a life member of the Fellows
Leadership Society. As a member of the American College of Phlebology, he
maintains his strong interest in the clinical treatment of vein disease. Dr. West
is one of only 520 physicians nationwide, and the only physician in Santa
Barbara County, to be certified by the American Board of Phlebology.
Though Dr. West now dedicates much of his time to the treatment of varicose
veins and other venous disorders at the Santa Barbara Vein Center, he has been
a distinguished thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon in Santa Barbara for many
years. He was privileged to spend several years in practice in South Bend,
Indiana where he opened a new heart surgery program at St. Josephʼs Medical
Center.

Known by his patients to be an excellent and caring physician, Dr. West has
been featured on the KEYT-ABC program Health Life. In 2004, Dr. West was
honored to receive the Teacher of the Year Award from the Department of
Surgery at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara. He continues to enjoy a close
relationship with the surgery residents in training at Cottage Hospital.

Dr. Westʼs hobbies include downhill skiing and restoring vintage Corvettes.
Married to wife Susan for more than 30 years, Dr. West has two grown children,
Nathan and Megan, and is the doting grandpa of one-year-old Sadie.
